Methods of Abortions
WHAT ARE FIRST TRIMESTER ABORTION OPTIONS?
Medication Abortions: The most common first trimester medication abortion is the Abortion Pill.
- RU486, Mifepristone: (Abortion Pill) - Within 4 to 7 weeks after last menstrual period (LMP)
This drug is only approved for use in women up to 49 days after their last menstrual period; however, it is commonly used "off label" up to 63 days.
Surgical Abortions: In the first trimester a surgical abortion may be performed in place of the medication abortion. These abortions are performed between the 4th and 13th weeks.
- First Trimester Suction Abortion: about 4 to 13 weeks after LMP
WHAT ARE SECOND TRIMESTER ABORTION OPTIONS?
- Dilation & Evacuation (D&E): about 13 to 24 weeks after LMP

- D&E When Live Birth is Possible: from about 24 weeks and up
