FREE PREGNANCY TESTS
At the Ithaca and Cortland Pregnancy Centers, we’re not using “dollar store” pregnancy tests. Our high quality, medical grade urine-based pregnancy test has a manufacturer’s accuracy rating of 99%. Our test has a higher sensitivity to the pregnancy hormone (hCG) than many over-the-counter brands. That means you can know sooner, BEFORE your next period is due. Women testing positive for pregnancy may qualify for the NEXT STEP…a FREE, confirmation ultrasound. When you come for your appointment we can determine if you are eligible for an on-site ultrasound referral.
FREE LIMITED CONFIRMATION ULTRASOUND
If you’ve had a positive pregnancy test, a confirmation ultrasound is an important next step. An ultrasound is particularly essential if you are thinking about having an abortion.
Ultrasound can also be helpful in detecting a possible early miscarriage and also an ectopic (tubal) pregnancy, which if left unattended, can potentially be life threatening.
An confirmation ultrasound can tell if your pregnancy is:
- viable (alive)
- in the uterus
- how far along you are (gestational age)
How accurate is the test?
Our tests are laboratory rated. They can detect the hCG pregnancy hormone as early as 14 days after conception or 21 to 24 days after the first day of your last period. The test is over 99% accurate.
Can I have a retest if my test is negative and my period doesn't start?
Yes, you may be rescheduled for another test. The hCG hormone doubles every 2.2 days during the first three months of pregnancy.
Should I see a doctor if I have a second negative test and have not started my period?
If you have concerns about missed periods and your pregnancy test continues to be negative, you should see your health care provider for assessment. If you need resources for health care, our centers can provide you referrals.
